Introduction to the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible Study
This introductory four-week course provides participants with an opportunity to explore the Dead Sea Scrolls, a collection of ancient Jewish manuscripts dating back to the Second Temple period. The discovery of the initial Dead Sea Scrolls in a secluded Judean Desert cave in 1947 is widely regarded as the most significant archaeological event of the twentieth century.
The delicate pieces of parchment and papyrus, including the oldest extant copies of the Hebrew Bible, were preserved for two millennia by the arid desert climate and the darkness of the caves where they were stored. The scrolls offer an unparalleled perspective on the diverse religious convictions of ancient Judaism and the daily life during the tumultuous Second Temple period when Jesus lived and preached.
Beginning April 18th through May 9th. We’ll meet in the Parish Center at 1:30pm.
