Self-Study: Getting to Know Each Other

On the back page of last week’s bulletin was a Self-Study to help us on our Faith Journeys.  It gave you the opportunity to assess what you are doing now or are willing to do to get to Know Each Other, Ourselves, and the Lord.

Getting to know others helps build a sense of community.  Why do people come to Mass and participate in communal worship rather than just praying at home?  (Other than the obvious “4th commandment.)  Communal worship and a community of faith-filled people enhances our own experience.

And isn’t it nice to recognize some faces when you go to Mass?  Even amongst regular Mass-goers, are the sub-groups of “Early Mass”, “Sunday night Mass”, etc.    So, a great first step is to actually say hello to another parishioner at Mass.  Engage in some light conversation.

Your next challenge might be to walk down the street after Mass to the Parish Center and share a cup of coffee and a donut with others from your Mass.   This will allow you a little more time to  share some stories and shared experiences.

Our parish has recently added some opportunities for Getting to Know Each other.  These include, Panda Sunday, Senior Breakfast Club, Moms Meet Up, and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.  Each of these have been very well received.

Almost 100 parishioners joined together for our first Parish Dinner Party, hosted at eight different homes.  I personally hosted a group of nine in my home and we had a great time getting to know each other on a personal level.

Our Senior Breakfast Club will come together again this Friday, March 2nd at 9 a.m. (new time).

One of the best ways to become more connected with others is another new addition to our parish.  The Weekly Newsletter.  This is an electronic newsletter that is received in your email.  It is published every Thursday.  In it you will find upcoming events, a chance to “meet the ministers”, and great stories and pictures of past events.  Most stories contain links to learn even more about the topic.

Make a choice and do at least one thing this Lent to get to know others in the parish.
